History of the Golden Ratio
While the exact discovery year is unknown, the first implications that people had discovered the Golden Ratio date back to the pyramids in Egypt. Over centuries, it has known many names, including the Golden Section, the Golden Mean, the Divine Proportion, and Phi. Drawing the attention of many artists, mathematicians, and even philosophers, Phi shows up throughout history in famous works and discoveries. It is present in the cathedral of Notre Dame, the Taj Mahal, paintings including the Last Supper, notebooks of DaVinci, the work of Johannes Kepler and Euclid, and elements of the natural world, such as flowers and life forms, including dolphins, snails, and human proportions.
Because of its abundance throughout history and today, and its presence in the proportions of our face and body, it made me curious as to whether there is a correlation present between phi and attraction. Learn more about my Phi and Beauty Study here.
